Show Us Jura Preview

We are delighted to announce that we will be heading over to the Inner Hebrides to stage Show Us Jura, a community-focused project which will give islanders and the Document Scotland team the opportunity to make work about life on Jura. The project will take place from 2-6 May, 2024.

Over the course of our stay on Jura, we will support and guide local people who wish to make photographic stories about any aspect of their lives on the island. At the same time, Sophie, Colin, Margaret and Craig will work on their own projects, engaging with members of the community to document what life looks like there today.

There will be sessions where participants can seeks advice and inspiration, as well as opportunities to work directly with our photographers as part of the documentation process. The results of these activities will be screened at a special presentation evening on Monday 6th May at the Village Hall, to which everyone is invited.

This series of events is a follow up to similar projects we have staged before, either in person (Show Us Colonsay in 2022) and online during the Covid pandemic (Show Us Shetland and Highlighting the Highlands). We will be posting a series of portfolios and news items on our website in the coming weeks with the photography we make on Jura and are looking forward to sharing these with you.

A live audience on Colonsay watching presentations by members of the local community made as part of the Show Us Colonsay project.

Show Us Jura has been made possible through generous funding from Creative Scotland via the National Lottery, as well as being supported by our friends at Street Level Photoworks. We are also partnering with two local organisations, Dochas and Showdrop Argyll, who will help us with the logistics around making the project as inclusive and accessible as possible to everyone who wants to take part.

Thanks are also due to members of the Jura Development Trust for their enthusiastic support and we are looking forward to working with them next week.

Please get in contact with us for further details, including a Press Release for Show Us Jura.
